Built on twenty years of engineering depth.
P2i was founded on a single conviction: that the most reliable protection for electronic devices would come from molecular-level science, not from thicker coatings or better seals. Twenty years later, that conviction has protected over ten billion devices.

Foundation
The science and the scale
P2i’s technology starts at the molecular level: a covalently bonded barrier, nanometres thick, deposited across every surface of a device with masking requirements significantly reduced, without adding to form factor, and without changing how the product performs.
That science is not a differentiator in itself. What makes it a commercial platform is the ability to deploy it at scale: in contract manufacturing facilities across the UK, China, and globally, on production lines running hundreds of thousands of units per day, across plasma and liquid barrier coating — two distinct process technologies engineered and qualified by the same team.
No named competitor operates at OEM scale with this breadth of protection capability. That is the engineering position P2i has built, and the one this site is designed to make visible.
Built for where the industry is going
PFAS-free
No per- or polyfluoroalkyl substances in plasma or LBC processes
Solvent-free
No aqueous waste stream, no hazardous chemistry
100% reworkable
Full right-to-repair compatibility, room-temperature process
Leadership
The people behind it
P2i is led by two of the most qualified people in the protective coatings field. Stephen Coulson is the inventor of the P2i plasma technology and one of the world’s leading authorities on plasma coating science — the capability that protects ten billion devices began with his PhD research at Durham University. Justin Kleingartner holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from MIT and was CTO at actnano, where he led the development of next-generation ultra-thin liquid barrier coatings for consumer electronics and automotive at production scale. Between them, they have built the two coating technologies that define this category.
That combination of depth is not available anywhere else at OEM scale. It is what every customer conversation at P2i connects you to — not a sales layer, not a distributor. The people who built the science.
Technology & Delivery
Stephen Coulson
Chief Technology Officer
Inventor of the P2i plasma technology, developed during his PhD at Durham University on liquid-repellent surfaces. One of the world’s leading authorities on plasma coating science. Founding member and CTO of P2i since 2004. More than 25 years in advanced materials science and plasma processing, with prior roles at the UK Ministry of Defence (Dstl) scaling the patented technology for industrial applications. The plasma capability that protects ten billion devices began with Stephen’s research.
Justin Kleingartner
Chief Commercial Officer
One of the world’s leading authorities on ultra-thin liquid barrier coatings. PhD in Chemical Engineering from MIT; MS in Chemical Engineering Practice, MIT; BS in Chemical Engineering, Iowa State University.
